Project Barbarossa

A Bike Build For The 2013 Queen City Mods And Rockers Rally

This year the Cincinnati Cafe Racer club is building a cafe racer bike to be raffled off at the 2013 Queen City Mods & Rockers Rally held on June 1st.  The rally is a vintage motorcycle and scooter rally in Cincinnati. An all volunteer group are getting greasy and taking a 1978 CB750K and turning it into a cafe racer style ride that we call “Project Barbarrosa”.

Barbarossa

Frederick sends out the boy to see whether the ravens still fly. This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons.

Barbarossa refers to the legend of Fredrick the first, holy Roman emperor. The Legend says he is not dead, but asleep with his knights in a cave in the Kyffhäuser mountain in Bavaria, Germany, and that when the ravens cease to fly around the mountain he will awake and restore Germany to its ancient greatness. According to the story, his red beard has grown through the table at which he sits. His eyes are half closed in sleep, but now and then he raises his hand and sends a boy out to see if the ravens have stopped flying.  Barbarossa was also a type of beer brewed in Cincinnati nearly a hundred years ago by the now defunct Red Top brewery and more recently by Christian Moerlein brewers in Cincinnati.  So to celebrate our brewing heritage in Cincinnati we’ve given a nod to the legend that this bike will become.Barbarossa Beer Can by Red Top

Our CB750 cafe racer build starts with a good non running candidate acquired cheaply and the parts are being provided at cost by Steve’s Garage, suspension by Progressive Suspensions , additional parts and support from VintageCB750.comDime City Cycles, and other sponsors. Our members and friends are donating funds to cover the costs, providing volunteer time and labor to do the repairs and creative touches needed to make this a bike we can all be proud of.  You can also get involved by donating to the bike build fund or sponsoring the entire build.  Sponsorship will get your company name painted onto the tank or other prominent portion of the bike.  All donations are greatly appreciated.  The proceeds from the raffle go towards the Change of Heart charity and to cover the expenses of the rally.
